HERE: ART EXHIBITION HONORING THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ADA

by The THRIVE Network

HERE: between yesterday and tomorrow is a meditation on the existential question: “What does it mean to be here?” In honor of the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), HERE invites the viewer to explore ‘here’ as a place, declaration and moment resting between history and visions of the future. In this collection of intimate portrait drawings, colorful abstract paintings, futuristic installations, and re-purposed textiles, each piece of work, created by artists with disabilities, quietly wrestles with the many dimensions of human living in the present. From depictions of historical sayings and American symbols to weavings composed of household materials and a quilted sleeping bag, these works are an observation of the people, places, and objects that imbue the human existence with meaning.

Since its inception twenty years ago, The THRIVE Network’s art collection has steadily expanded to include the works of local artists. HERE is a presentation of their never before exhibited works of art alongside select works from the dynamic artists of Arte Moose Collective and Land Gallery.

Our reception will be held on Friday, July 24th at 6pm with an open galley viewing. Curator, Stephanie George and artists will be available for special tours and insight on the artwork. A very special performance by jazz percussionist, Ricky Gordon will close the evening at 9:00pm.

Suggested donation for attendance is $20. All proceeds from donations will directly go to support The THRIVE Network's programs. From early education, supporting individuals with physical and developmental disabilities, social habilitation, and support programs for senior citizens and the homeless, The THRIVE Network, has helped individuals and families in need, in their own way, find their path to success.

The event will be held at Shops at the Loom, located on 1087 Flushing Avenue, Brooklyn, NY. Accessible entrance near 100 Thames Street at the Courtyard Gate.
